Our Story
How We Met
Dawn and Bolaji met at a friend’s birthday party in July 2011. After locking eyes in the restaurant, we both realized we had seen each other in the past and soon realized we had mutual friends. After a nice chat, Bolaji asked for Dawn's phone number to play a round of golf and the rest is history.
Our Interests
Although our careers keep us very busy, we try to live out the mantra “work to live, not live to work”. During our free time, Dawn enjoys cooking gourmet dishes, hiking around various locations in the bay area and grant research and writing for community health clinics while Bolaji spends his time playing soccer in West Oakland, playing a few rounds of poker in South Bay and investing. We both enjoy playing a round of golf here and there. Other than our love for golf, we’ve spent a fair amount of time traveling together. Over the past couple of years, we’ve explored the Colosseum and witnessed the changing of the guards in Rome, toured the Louvre and enjoyed a local R&B concert in Paris, visited Buckingham Palace and Houses of Parliament in London, took a moment of silence for our troops at the Pearl Harbor Museum in Honolulu, walked through historic missions in Old town San Diego, and brought in the new year with Stevie Wonder in Las Vegas.
The Proposal
After taking a trip to London in July 2014, we flew back to London again in late October of the same year to celebrate Bolaji’s sister, Bukky's birthday. After spending time with family and enjoying the birthday festivities in the outskirts of London, we thought it would be fun to stay in the city during our last night before flying back home. After checking into the Radisson Blu-Edwardian on Bloomsbury Street Sunday evening November 2, 2014, we decided to eat a nice meal. We found Hawksmoor Seven Dials in Covent Garden and walked over cobblestone streets in the rain to get there. After enjoying an amazing steak dinner, we both thought it would be fun to grab dessert nearby so we walked over to Soho and found an Italian bakery and pizzeria named Princi with an endless number of pastries and desserts. Since we were both very tired, we decided to take our individually boxed desserts back to the hotel and enjoy them over a pot of tea. “Would you like a pot of tea?”
Eager to tear into the desserts, Dawn opened her box and tried her dessert first. Since Dawn was curious to know the taste of Bolaji’s dessert so she asked if she could try it and opened his box. Just as she started to dip her fork into the dessert, she noticed a gorgeous diamond ring dipped inside and screamed “Oh my God…really?” It was such a surprise and so romantic. To this day, Dawn still doesn’t know how Bolaji was able to get the ring inside of the dessert box because she was around the entire time. This was such a remarkable moment and we are looking forward to more amazing moments in marriage.
